In his keynote, Rubén delivered a powerful message about how the rapid adoption of Artificial Intelligence is reshaping industries at an unprecedented pace. He shared compelling data showing how companies that integrate AI early are achieving significant competitive advantages, emphasizing that “AI is not a future opportunity — it’s a present necessity to distance yourself from your competitors.”
Drawing from his experience as GP of Next Tier Ventures, a €50 million fund investing exclusively in AI startups, Rubén also discussed what the firm looks for when evaluating early-stage companies: visionary teams, strong execution capacity, scalable AI technology, and a clear path to market adoption. He highlighted how Next Tier works hand-in-hand with founders, not only providing capital but also leveraging its global network of investors, partners, and corporate leaders to accelerate growth.
Another key takeaway from his talk was the strategic role of corporations in AI investing. Rubén stressed the importance of large enterprises investing in AI funds as a form of “technological radar” — a way to anticipate emerging trends, identify disruptive innovation early, and stay ahead of what’s coming next. “Big corporations that fail to monitor and invest in AI innovation,” he noted, “risk being blindsided by the speed of change.”
The event, organized by ESPOL’s Technology and Innovation Hub, brought together academics, business executives, and international experts to explore how AI is transforming education, business models, ethics, marketing, and the future of work.
We’re honored to see Rubén representing Next Tier Ventures on such an influential stage — reaffirming our mission to back the most ambitious AI founders and to help shape the technological landscape of tomorrow.
